Why Design?

I always knew that one day I would want a career that I would love, I just didn't know it would take me so long to actually decide on my career choice. Truth is, I still don't know. Although, what I do know, is that it will be along the lines of design, in some way or another. When I first attended college in high school, I choose Graphic Design as my major. Then when I graduated I decided to jump right into Interior Design at Washington State University. Interior Design was not for me. You will notice my Interior Design work at the beginning of my blog. I decided to keep it up because it really shows where I started on my journey. Now, I have found myself back in the Graphic Design program at Eastern State University. Hopefully this is where I will stay. If not, well, I am still young.

Magazine Project

This was the first project I did in my computer graphics class. It is a magazine cover for a car magazine. We could choose any car we wanted and any background. The Volkswagen bus on the cover is based off the other picture. It is completely vector, hand drawn using Adobe Illustrator. For this first project, we really focused on getting the hang of using the pen tool for drawing and gradient meshes for coloring. The background on the cover is live traced. Overall, I was really proud of this project. I had never used Illustrator before, so it was also my first time using the pen tool. I thought I did well on the basic shapes and outlines of the vehicle, but lacked on the detail and in the coloring. If I were to draw another car, I would make sure to focus more on the coloring and shading. Another problem I found in the project, would be the typography. The font is too distracting and the wording is not very catchy. Although, after spending a lot of time on this project, I feel better knowing I have some knowledge when using these tools.
